Port Aransas, Texas may be known for its fishing and beaches, but when the boats can't get out fishing, then it is time to go surfing. There are many local surf spots around Port Aransas, but the one spot you can almost always catch a wave is Horace Caldwell Pier. Horace Caldwell Pier is located inside the city limits down Beach Road. Some other surf spots to check out are Bob Hall Pier, Packery Channel and Fish Pass, which can all be found on the beach on the way to Corpus Christi. Most days, the surf will not be too crowded, but when surfing gets good, word travels quickly. There are excellent surf shops around Port Aransas to help you get the surf boards and apparel that you need. Some also have daily Port Aransas surf reports. A couple of surf shop are the Board House and the Port A. Surf Co. There is also a Surf Camp held during the summer for kids who want to learn: Texas Surf Camps. It is professionally run with a high ratio of friendly, experienced staff to teach your children how to surf. Remember, if the surf is flat then you need to get out fishing. There are fishing trips available for everyone from beginners to experts and bay fishing to deep sea fishing because Port Aransas is located on the Gulf of Mexico, so charter a boat because in Port A, they bite every day.
